Yes, Stephanie, you'll want to keep the dough covered with something that will keep it from drying out or developing a skin, like plastic wrap or something as simple as placing a dinner plate or pan on top of the bowl you're using. If you're keeping it on the counter, you can cover it with an over-turned bowl. What you want to avoid is covered it with anything porous like a towel.
