Pattie, if your dough is sitting out at room temperature, it's not particularly cold in the kitchen, and you're seeing no puffiness or growth at all ... is it possible you forgot to add the yeast, or didn't add enough? Otherwise it's very puzzling that you wouldn't see any change at all after five hours sitting out on the counter.
