Hi Elizabeth! We have a whole blog article dedicated specifically to almond flour since it behaves entirely differently from wheat-based flours. 

Most often when a recipe is simply calling for flour, they mean all-purpose, but you're certainly welcome to experiment using cake flour and see if you prefer the results. Happy baking!
