Hmm, that's a really good question, Lily! Were they two batches made from the same batter? If that's the case, perhaps they were a bit unevenly mixed, with one set getting more of the sugar or flour, for example and the other set getting less. If these were made with two separate batches of batter, it could just be a difference in how the ingredients were measured (cocoa and flour are especially tricky to measure consistently by volume, even when following our recommended method.
