Hi Maranda, when making true Vanilla Extract the ratio is 1 oz of beans to 8 oz of alcohol of choice. You cannot use a specific number of beans. There are some beans that weigh over 2 oz each, you can also have as many as 15 beans in 1 oz. It really does need to be weighed out to get the correct ratio. What you are telling people to make, would be great in a mixed drink, but it is not true vanilla extract.
