As I understand, single fold vanilla is 1 oz of beans in 8 oz (one cup) of vodka (or whatever alcohol one chooses to use.) Double fold (twice as strong) needs 2 oz of beans in 8 oz of alcohol. I have amber bottles for my extract when it is ready, but people use clear glass too. As I understand, the most important thing is to keep the vanilla stored away from the light.
