While I haven't tried using grain alcohol to make homemade vanilla extract, I did some research and it sounds like bakers have used grain alcohol successfully. Most people who take this route dilute the grain alcohol with water before using to ensure the alcohol content isn't too high. I personally like the flavor that comes through when vodka is used, but feel free to experiment. Good luck! Kye@KAF
