While it's a little hard to tell without having seen it happen, it does sound like there was some kind of a reaction between the coloring and the cream. You could check the cream container for a phone number and reach out to the manufacturer to see if they've heard similar reports. It could also be a case of the cream being a little over whipped, causing the fat to clump up.
