Hi Tom,
I think it might work as a swirled cupcake, I'm not sure how well it would layer in the smaller space without the filling poking through in places. If you used a pound cake as the base and probably chilling the batter, you might have a better chance as the batter would be thicker. Good luck, keep us posted!
