Hi there, Derby. We're sorry to hear that this frosting gave you such trouble. Your instinct to put the frosting back on the mixer and add a little liquid was great! It just sounds like a bit too much was added — we suggest only adding either some milk or water a tablespoon at a time and then giving the frosting a minute or two on the mixer. Beating the frosting incorporates air which can also help to achieve a more spreadable frosting and it allows you time to fully incorporate the additional liquid and see its effects. Also, we might suggest weighing your confectioners' sugar if you're not already — this can help to ensure that too much doesn't sneak its way into your mixing bowl which would result in a drier product. It sounds like when you then had to correct again with some additional sugar, the ratios got thrown off and the frosting lost its shininess. We hope these tips help for your next baking adventure!
