Hi there, Derby. We're sorry to hear that this frosting gave you such trouble. Your instinct to put the frosting back on the mixer and add a little liquid was great! It just sounds like a bit too much was added — we suggest only adding either some milk or water a tablespoon at a time and then giving the frosting a minute or two on the mixer. Beating the frosting incorporates air which can also help to achieve a more spreadable frosting and it allows you time to fully incorporate the additional liquid and see its effects. Also, we might suggest weighing your confectioners' sugar if you're not already — this can help to ensure that too much doesn't sneak its way into your mixing bowl which would result in a drier product.
