This made me laugh. Sometimes the way we do things gets so ingrained that we can't see the obvious. Favorite story along these lines is that a young woman had a family gathering and was preparing roast as her mother and grandmother looked on. Her grandmother asked why she was cutting the ends off and the daughter replied that's what she'd been taught by her mom. The mom then replied that's what she'd learned by watching the grandmother. The grandmother replied that she'd only had one size roasting pan so she had to cut off the ends!
