I use your crust recipe with the buttermilk power, butter & shortening in it and it browns every time on the bottom for my pumpkin pie. I do not blind bake first, but brush the crust with a beaten egg to seal it, and then pour in filling and bake. If I do get a crack in the pie in never matters, as I use my mom's standard fix - bake a piece of pie crust shaped like a turkey and place it in the center of the pie. Growing up I thought this is how a Thanksgiving pie was supposed to look, she was probably covering the crack :).
