Hi M., a pale colored liquid isn't necessarily a bad sign, as long as it doesn't have a pink or orange hue. In these early days of creating a starter I think it's okay to soldier on unless you're seeing definite signs of contamination or mold. That being said, I encourage you to trust your instincts and do what seems best, keeping in mind that the creation process involves gradually weeding out the unhelpful bacteria and developing a stable relationship between the friendly bacteria and wild yeast, so there can be some off odors and unpredictable behavior along the way.
