Hi Nell, if you're looking for a substitute for boiled cider in a recipe, the apple butter/cider combination would have a little different consistency and texure, but should work flavor-wise. We generally recommend substituting an equal amount of thawed frozen apple juice concentrate if you don't have boiled cider available.
