Hi Sha, clearly our Grandmas were a special breed! Seriously, though, I think they just baked much more than most of us do these days, out of necessity, and learned everything they needed to know from trial and error and, of course, their own mothers and grandmas (and sometimes fathers and grandpas too). Maybe a cookbook helped here and there also.
