I tried a "trick" once and it worked out perfectly for me. Now I use it every time I make an apple pie. Dried apples as my first layer after the crust. I try to find a dried apple that I'm not already using in my pie for an extra boost of flavor. Granted, I only make an apple pie maybe three times a year, but so far this trick has worked out for me for the past ten years.
