We love using a thermometer to test for doneness in some cases, namely bread. We've written full articles on our blogs about using a thermometer to test for doneness in yeast breads and quick bread (like banana bread). This doesn't tend to work as well for cookies since the formula for dough can vary so drastically. Instead, use visual cues like the color of the top crust and how a knife looks when it comes out of being inserted into the center. Your kitchen should also smell amazing when they're done baking!
