This story is about my worst hot weather wedding cake day ever. The wedding was in August, very hot and humid, and the event took place outside between a river and a cornfield that had just been fertilized with manure. Flies were everywhere.
The cake was covered with a thin layer of buttercream and fondant over that. The bride and groom took off in a motor boat immediately following the "I do's" leaving me tending the cake and all the guests sweltering under a tent, starving. This inconsiderate couple did not return for more than an hour. By that time, I think the flies had been on every square inch of the cake, in spite of my constant waving of fans to shoo them away. Absolutely no more outdoor summer weddings for me.
