If both buttercreams are well mixed and at room temp you should be able to mix them together MA, but we don't recommend adding more shortening after you've finished the recipe rather than replacing some of the butter with said shortening. Also mascarpone would definitely help stabilize whipped cream, but nothing will beat the holding power of gelatin.
