Hi, Debra. Under no circumstances should a cake with potentially hazardous ingredients be left out in the danger zone (41°F to 160°F) for more than four hours. That said, if you are having a wedding or party, and a properly made cake can be on display for the 2 to 3 hours it usually takes for guests to be able to admire/photograph/instagram it, the couple to be introduced, and the ceremonial cake cutting to happen. If the ingredients are properly handled (for example, the egg whites in the meringue frostings are cooked to at least 165°F) and the cake is refrigerated until it's displayed, the cake is safe to eat. I would never recommend putting a cake on a hot picnic table for 6 hours. Susan
