We're happy to clarify this Paula! For best results, be sure to do both. Inside your freezer bowl is a pocket of water that should be frozen solid before you use the bowl. The custard base of the ice cream should also be chilled (but not frozen solid) before you start the churning process. Doing both will ensure you get the smoothest creamiest ice cream possible!
