I have a gas whirlpool oven and my oven thermometer always says it preheated before it actually has. It takes about 20 mins for my oven to actually reach the preheated temperature. My problem is when I put my two cupcake pans into my preheated oven, the temperature drastically drops; and before it can reach back up to the preheated temperature, I have to rotate my pans which causes it to drop and lose any progress it had. By the time my cupcakes should be coming out (20 mins), the temperature has climbed up somewhat but hasn't reached the set temperature. It eventually will climb back up but it takes so long, and my baked goods get done before it can reach back up in time. Is this normal for gas ovens? I think some people's ovens recover faster and return to the set temperature within a few minutes of opening their oven door, but maybe not. Anyone have any ideas of what I can do? Also, some days my oven runs a little hotter than other days. Saddest part is when my cupcake edges start to burn, but need to be in longer, especially when my oven temp is dropping so much so it is baking at such a low temperature already. :(
