What are your thoughts on "12 minute frosting"...made with flour and milk cooked to a paste, then whipped with plain sugar and fat (Mom always used Crisco, I use a mix with butter). It is the original frosting for Waldorf-Astoria's red velvet cake and my favorite on everything.
