I just used Ann Smith's idea with boiling water and some of the flour and used it in my bread machine. It looks just like the tangzhong in the picture so far! Waiting for it to cool so I can add the other ingredients, so excited!
Update: I just baked the best, softest pain de mie of my life! It works PERFECTLY in a bread machine!
