Hi Barb, I am new to sourdough starter. My first try after 12 hour blew up all over the jar while it was in the first rest. I used a quart glass jar and a rubber spatula to stir. The start was every where and was extremely hard to clean up it was quite gooey and thick. I only have about 2 inches left in the jar. What did I do wrong? Should I keep what is left of the starter or start over. I used fresh milled unbleached white bread flour (2cups) 2 1/4 teaspoons dry yeast and 16 oz of warm water. I followed the recipe, and put it to rest for 24 hours. At 12 hours I started to smell the sour starter and when it looked at it, it had exploded. What do I do now> Please help. Since we are house bound because of the virus I am trying different things. Thanks
