Thank you, Barb (and readers), for all the guidance and helpful advice! I used the King Arthur sourdough guide, and was having trouble getting activity going. By day 9, I ended up with a bit of froth and "hooch" at the top of of my starter before every feeding, and if this is useful for anyone, I learned that the liquid was an indicator that I was underfeeding it. Turned out that I had misread the 1:1:1 ratio part and was measuring by volume and not weight, so I wasn't giving my starter enough flour. Switched it up and overnight I got a beautiful rise!
