Hi Amy, as you may have noted from our earlier blog post, an orange or pink spot or streak in your starter is likely a sign of unfriendly bacteria. While you might be able to revive it, signs like this indicate that the starter's defenses have been severely compromised, and it's probably prudent to discard it. It is a sad day when we have to give up on a faithful starter, but it's better to be safe. The good news is that you can have a new starter up and running within about 10 days, and if you don't want to go to the trouble of starting a starter from scratch, we do sell a mature Fresh Sourdough Starter, that only needs a few feedings before you're ready to start baking!
