Hi Rebecca, there is no typo in this recipe! The starter will be thick initially but it should not be completely solid. If you use your measuring cup as a scoop to scoop the flour, the flour can compact down into the cup causing excess flour to be unintentionally added to the recipe. It is just fine that you added more water in this case. Overtime you will see the starter naturally begin to thin out. Hope this helps!
