on day 3 my starter looked bubbly and active and I fed it as per instructions. Day 4 the starter formed a layer of liquid on top. Day 5 it did the same so I read that meant it needed feeding so I fed it twice. Day 6 this morning: 12 hours after being fed, it had a slightly darker layer of liquid on top. I stirred it down and followed the feeding instructions. it has been 4 hours and there is already a layer of liquid forming. It smells like it's fermenting/yeasty tang but no bubbles are forming and it doesn't expand at all. Our house is cool, 70-72 degrees so I've placed it near the gas fireplace with a very low ambient warmth from the pilot light but that didn't change the reaction. What is going on?
