This is my second go-around with making my own sour dough starter. My first was last year and I got some wonderful loaves of bread out of it, but then life happened and I neglected my starter to the point that I had to throw it out. I tried it again just recently using same measurements. Our house cools down at night so I put it in the oven with the light on one night around day 5 and it bubbled and rose to triple the size. I left it on the counter after that and continued to feed it every 12 hours. About day 8 or 9 I missed a feeding and it went 24 hours without. After that it developed a very strong unpleasant smell. I have continued to feed it every 12 hours. The smell has diminished somewhat and it is slightly bubbling but not rising like I remembered from last year. I am probably on day 20 by now. Should I throw it and start over or do you think it will eventually come around?
