Hi Nigel, it sounds like your starter is just in need of a few days of twice a day feedings at room temperature to revive it. Mature starters survive quite well in the refrigerator, even for months, so I wouldn't worry too much about it being spoiled, especially because you saw no mold or pink/orange coloration. I would just keep feeding it at room temperature until it's back to its normal rising behavior and aroma.
