I have been keeping my starter in my turned off gas lit oven. I accidentally left it on top of oven when I was baking something and it got so hot the plastic lid started melting, so I put it in the fridge to cool off. I fed it and returned it to the off oven. When I pulled it out today for a past due feeding it had a layer of crust that was pink orange but otherwise normal. I scraped off the pink layer, split into two new containers--one to refeed and the other I used in my dough. Now I'm overthinking it and am worried if I bake this bread anyone who eats it will die. Could it just have gotten too hot and I don't have to start my starter all over again?
