Hi Emily, you didn't say how long your starter was stored in the refrigerator, but I think it may be worth a shot to remove the entire top layer of the starter and use a small portion of the remaining starter from the bottom to try to revive it. Start feeding twice daily at room temperature for a few days and see how the starter responds. If it begins to rise well, shows no further signs of contamination, and has a pleasant aroma, then it should be good to use in your baking again. Barb
