Hi Mindy, you didn't mention at what stage in the process your starter developed mold on the sides of the bowl. I'm guessing it was still during the initial creation phase? At this stage your starter isn't as resistant to invaders, and you might be better off starting over with a thoroughly clean bowl and implements. On the other hand, if you've successfully navigated past the mold and haven't seen any recurrence, then I would just proceed. Once your starter is fully mature it will be quite resistant to mold and unfriendly bacteria, and a good scraping down of the sides after each feeding is generally adequate, with an occasional complete clean out of the container.
