Hi Kathleen, it shouldn't cause any issues if you wash your container with very hot water, but I would avoid using dish soap. Eventually your starter will become quite resistant to unfriendly invaders and scraping down the sides of the container, with an occasional more thorough cleaning, should be sufficient. However, if you feel prefer cleaning more frequently, this shouldn't hurt anything. Having two identical containers and switching back and forth can make the cleaning process a bit easier. Barb
