Hi Sam, it sounds like the thin line of liquid is some form of hooch, which typically develops when the starter has fallen and is in need of another feeding. It's also common to see lots of small bubbles on the surface of your starter after the starter has fallen, so it may be that the alcohol that is a byproduct of fermentation is beginning to collect on the surface, along with the small bubbles that escape from the starter as it collapses. Neither of these are worrisome signs, but may just mean that your starter is ready for another feeding. Barb
