Hi Tj, I don't know if reviving your Grandfather's starter will work or not, but it's definitely worth a shot. I would try using our recommendations for activating a dried starter and see if this works for you. Using a stand mixer with the paddle attachment may be helpful in initially dissolving your dried starter. It will likely take a few extra feedings to see any activity, but if you've tried for a few days and not much is happening, then you might be better off just starting from scratch.
