Hi Mia, I doubt the odor you describe was caused by stirring your starter with a metal spoon, but regardless of the cause, it sounds like your starter just needs a little TLC to get it out of this funky stage. I would recommend feeding it at room temperature twice daily for a few days. Try feeding it with room temperature water and be sure to discard all but 1/2 cup (4 ounces) starter each time you do a feeding. Feed the 1/2 cup of starter 1/2 cup (4 ounces) water and 1 scant cup (4 ounces) flour. Leave your starter out at room temperature and I'm guessing after a few days of this feeding routine it will be back to smelling mildly tangy and delicious! Barb
