Put the finished cake in the freezer, unwrapped for about an hour until it becomes firm. Then you can take it out and wrap it in plastic wrap without damaging the frosting. Consider removing the plastic before thawing to avoid the tricky task of taking plastic wrap off a soft cake. (A cake dome or cake carrier is a great option to cover the thawing cake.) Happy baking!
