When I baked this in 8” pans I found that the layers came out with a very high crown, which made it hard to split them and wind up with a nice level cake. I tried again using dampened cake strips on the outside, and the layers rose higher and more level. I had to do very little trimming to get nice level layers. I did have to add 5 minutes to the baking time.
