While we haven't tried the steaming method with this recipe, we think it could work with a few adjustments. You might want to consider dividing the recipe in half and making two smaller cakes so they don't take too long to steam. You'll want to test for doneness repeatedly to ensure the cake has finished baking all the way through, and expect the cakes to take as long as two hours or more to bake all the way through.
