Hi there, Pam! If you used the 1/2 cup plus 1 tablespoon of cinnamon sugar called for in the recipe, it shouldn't have been too much. Each layer should get about 1/3 of the mixture; maybe one layer just had a bit too much and that is what is causing the leaking.
