You could opt for a flakey crust for a custard pie too Bella! There's nothing wrong with that but some folks find that a more tender, sandy texture pairs nicely with custard. When using all butter for a flakey texture in your pie crust you want to really make sure to use cool butter and not over work the butter or overwork the dough once you start adding water.
