I learned from my Mom to place each slice of apple in the crust one at a time!! That allows the least amount of empty space for there to be any gap. I also taste the apples to see how much sugar to add. I dot with butter and sprinkle with sugar, spices and lemon rind. Then a place the top crust on it. I always vent it and brush the top with mayonnaise and a little milk. Rarely a gap, and always a golden crust❤️
