Hi, Catherine. The lid of the Bread and Potato Pot should be slightly loose. If you hold the handles and shake it bake and forth, the lid will rattle slightly. This is purposeful; you don't want the lid to be tightly sealed, otherwise the bread won't bake properly. The small amount of air exchange allows the heat to flow in and the steam to slowly come out. You only want steam during the first part of the bake time; near the end, you want the loaf to be baked in a relatively dry environment so the crust gets crispy. So no worries — bake on!
