Hi, neighbor! Sourdough is a very involved subject, and there are lots and lots and LOTS of paths to good bread. The starter she acquired in Alaska will soon morph into a "Pilgrim starter" — that is, it'll take on the characteristics of your own home kitchen in Plymouth. Her best bet is to read and study our complete guide to baking with sourdough; There's lots of great information and tips there, much more than I could possibly remember if we were to chat.
