Hi there, Tina! We wonder if too much air was knocked out of the meringue when it was spread on the cake, causing it to deflate a bit. For future bakes, we'd recommend working with the meringue quickly but gently and using a rubber spatula rather than a metal offset spatula will help with not deflating the meringue too much.
