Hi Suzie, we don't recommend preheating this particular pot empty, but you can put the bread and pot into a preheated oven, or begin in a cold oven. When preheating the oven first, I would recommend taking the lid off about 25 minutes into the bake, with a cold starter I would remove the lid about 30 minutes into the bake.
