Mary, if you're asking about this Dutch oven (it's also sold in black), then you can also preheat it empty. It is oven safe up to 930 degrees F as well. If you have another version of this pot, we encourage you to call the Baker's Hotline at 855-371-BAKE(2253) so we can do a bit of further investigating to ensure you get the right information.
