Annamarie, we've updated the test kitchen tips part of the product page for the Dutch oven to ensure you that while you can let the dough rise right in the pot, you can also try preheating the pot empty if you like. Either method will give you great success! I personally love the results of the preheating method, so I urge you to give it a try with your pot. The crust is incomparably beautiful and crispy!
